Why Talk Therapy Doesn't Work

I have finally discovered the key to happiness. And I am super excited to share it with you.

It is fantastic to know that anything you dislike about your personality and anything that you want to change can be changed. But not the way that we have been told. We need to go to the source, not dabble around in the symptoms.

For the past several years, I have been grappling with the questions, "Who am I?" and "What am I?"

It became obvious to me that I wasn't just a meat sack carrying around a brain. My study of non-duality led me to the understanding that I am awareness, the witnessing presence of my life. However, I still suffered from emotional dis-ease. I was not happy. So, my search continued.

You are a spiritual being. An energetic being. As I wrote previously:

Your emotional state has a direct impact on your physical well being. We are energetic beings and every emotion that we experience impacts our physical body with its frequency and power.

Our emotions drive our life. They determine what we say or don’t say, what we do or don’t do, and impact our attitude toward our self and our life.

I have been a certified personal and professional coach since 2000. Last year I decided that I needed a new tool in my coaching toolbox, which I have purified and created the Applied Somatic Intelligence method. This completely changed my understanding of who I am and how life works.

Who Are You Really?

As we go through life, we create characters to play different roles. I have different positive characters that I created to play the game of life: mother, daughter, sister, leadership coach, and emotional clarity coach. I create positive characters on purpose so that I can engage in a chosen activity in life.

For example, I created my driver identity by learning how to drive a car. I created a business consultant identity by getting an MBA from Carnegie Mellon, working for two consulting firms and starting my own consultancy. Professional athletes create identities and hire coaches to help them improve their athlete identity. Positive identities are not the problem.

We unknowingly create a negative identity to handle a situation that disturbs us. It happens because we unconsciously resists an unwanted feeling or decision about ourself as a person.

As we resist the unwanted feeling, we make a negative decision about ourself. It then lives beyond our conscious awareness as if it is true. Every client I have worked with has had some version of "I am unlovable, unworthy, not smart enough, not good enough, not important."

Why Talk Therapy Doesn't Work

People invest countless hours and dollars in talk therapy hoping to heal the past so that they can be happy now. This never works. I tried it and my daughters tried it. Somehow, it seemed to make our problems bigger and more real.

My Applied Somatic Intelligence process requires zero self-disclosure. What happened doesn't matter. Only how you reacted to what happened: what you felt.
