I know it's a big word: sovereignty. It's hard to spell. It's hard to say out loud without sounding like you're reciting something from a manifesto.
And if you've never heard me use it before, I'd guess your first association isn't somatic healing at all. It's independence. Self-sufficiency. Maybe even something political like a nation, a border, a flag.
So let me tell you what I actually mean by it, because it's almost the opposite of what it sounds like.
It comes from the latin superanus = of/belonging to that which is above. It is when your true self, that is made in the image of God, is your lived experience.
It isn't independence from other people. It isn't the ability to go it alone, to need nothing, to never feel unpleasant feelings. It’s when you use your emotions as a guide but are no longer controlled by negative emotions and reactions that get triggered by other people and life experiences.
I want to name this clearly because so many of you have already been sold a version of "empowerment" that was really just armor. You were told that healing meant becoming unshakeable and that the goal was to need less, feel less, be affected by less. Some of you got very good at that. And some of you are exhausted by it.
Sovereignty, as I use the word, isn't another performance of strength. It's not one more pattern to manage. It's the thing underneath all the managing. It refers to the sovereign self, the true self.
In the Orthodox Christian tradition, the word nous doesn't translate cleanly into English. It's often rendered as "mind," but that flattens it. The nous is closer to the eye of the heart: the deepest faculty of perception a person has, the place where you know before you think, where you sense the truth of something before conditioning kicks in.
Most of us live at a distance from our own nous. Not because it's gone, but because it's buried, under unconscious patterns, conditioning, and under adaptations we made to survive childhoods or relationships or institutions that needed us to be small, quiet and obedient. We built personalities and characters on a false framework.
Inner Sovereignty is what happens when you're no longer governed by unconscious patterns of thinking, believing, feeling and acting. Your true self steps into its natural, sovereign position.
As the calm witness to everything that is happening around you and inside of you. You start living and being present in your own life instead of performing to other people’s expectations. Your nous is purified and live with an open heart, receiving wisdom from above.
You get distance and independence from the false self, which you clearly see is not you. You are now firmly centered and grounded in your true self, guided by your intuition and inner knowing. You are able to discern right and wrong and make wise choices that elevate your soul.
Most paths toward the promise of inner freedom are additive. Learn this skill. Adopt this mindset. Practice this affirmation until it sticks. Add enough new material on top of the old pain, the thinking goes, and eventually you won't feel it anymore.
I don't believe that's how it actually works. I think the patterns are still there under the new forced patterns. The unconscious patterns are still running the show. You can meditate on gratitude for years and still flinch at the same old trigger, because the trigger was never addressed. It was covered.
My work is subtractive. Not because addition is wrong, but because I don't think the true self is something that needs to be built or fixed. Inside of you is a light, a divine spark. Years of unconscious patterns that you keep repeating and feeding with your life force energy, has hidden your light. But it burns brightly, waiting to be uncovered. All you need to do is dissolve and remove the patterns that cover it.
The nervous system holds patterns the way a body holds tension: physically, but often outside conscious reach. Somatic work exists because talking about a pattern rarely dissolves it. You have to meet it where it actually lives, which is usually in the body and its systems, not just the mind.
That's the difference between managing a pattern and releasing it. Managing it means you get better at living around it, more skilled, more disciplined, more composed. Releasing it means the pattern isn't running anymore. Not because you outmuscled it, but because it was finally met, felt, and let go.
A client I worked with came to me describing herself as "just an anxious person." She'd tried therapy, journaling, breathing apps. All of it helped a little. None of it moved the anxiety itself.
What we found, working somatically, was that the anxiety wasn't free-floating. It lived in a very specific, very old bracing pattern in her chest and shoulders that was created as a young child. She was exhausted trying to manage a decades-old somatic pattern without ever going to its root.
When we worked dissolved that pattern at the root, not talking about it, but meeting it in the body where it actually lived, it didn't just quiet down. It dissolved and released.
Something that she thought was just her, was finally gone and she felt more of her true self. She didn't describe herself as "less anxious." She described herself as more herself: clear, free, relaxed.
I’ve spent most of my life trapped in negative thoughts, destructive habits, and unhealthy relationships that I believed were all I deserved. Caprice has given me something I never imagined possible: freedom from the trauma that once ruled my life. I finally feel capable of living up to my full potential, unshackled from the pain of the past.

This is not like the exhausting long talks you may have had in the past with counselors. If you have past trauma, sticky relationships, or minor triggers, you can dismiss them and move forward feeling refreshed and positive. I feel as if a weight has been lifted. I was able to cast out the negative thoughts, and feel renewed and happy.

I felt so free after my first session with Caprice that I did 3 more. I am emotionally lighter and physically healthier as a result. I am also much happier and easier going in general. I am often overcome with a sense of joy and gratitude.

It is a return to your natural state of being.
Inner sovereignty is not a concept you analyze or think your way into. It’s a state of being that you rest into. Your body relaxes, unconscious patterns release and you have more energy, vitality and a strong sense of purpose.
If you want to feel what I'm describing rather than just read about it I invite you to start with the Root Release session.
Or if you want a small taste, then get my free 5 Days to Your True Self video series. You’ll get 5 short videos delivered into your inbox that I created to guide you to your true self.
Either way, you don't have to be able to spell the word to already know what it feels like when it's missing. Most of us do.
Peace be with you,
